Green Tea and Metabolism - Does green tea burn fat?
New research has shown that green tea may help our bodies burn more calories. One of the green tea’s main properties is to raise our metabolic process levels while enhancing our calories expenditure without exercises. Many people consider green tea as an important component of a weight loss program.
Green tea is a type of tea that has undergone minimal oxidation during processing. It is made without going through a fermentation process and therefore its active ingredients remain intact and potent.
Green tea has the highest concentration of antioxidants called polyphenols. Antioxidants are important because scavenge free radicals in our body and prevent some of damage that they cause. The polyphenols work with other chemicals in green tea to intensify levels of fat oxidation and thermogenesis, promoting the use of calories as energy.
Actually, green tea is not an appetite suppressant, it only increases exercise endurance. The polyphenols burn fat and reduce carbohydrate utilization, enabling people to exercise for longer periods of time.
Green tea also acts as glucose regulators. The catechins can help prevent obesity by inhibiting the movement of glucose in fat cells. It prevents sugar spikes after eating a meal. Because that, green tea catechins are related to reductions of body fat.
So, the polyphenols (specifically the catechins) are responsible for the herb's fat-burning effect. But also the combination of green tea and caffeine can improve weight loss.
Green tea is a source of caffeine, and the caffeine is well known for being a fat burner. The thermogenic effect of green tea was originally attributed to its caffeine content. The combination of caffeine and the other ingredients in green tea gives it the synergistic boost. The interaction between caffeine and polyphenols reduces the absorption of calories and increases the rate of fat burning. However, caffeine only increases metabolism during the time we take it.
Another factor to consider is that green tea promotes the burning of fat so that we lose weight slowly. This way we are burning the fat and not the muscle.
Some studies have shown that the longer we drink green tea, the more evident will be the weight loss effect.
